Post-Workout Recovery: A Simple 20-Minute Routine

Post-Workout Recovery: A Simple 20-Minute Routine

A recovery routine should help you transition out of training, not feel like another workout. Use this sequence after strength sessions or on an easy recovery day.

1. Downshift for five minutes

Walk at an easy pace. Let your breathing gradually slow and relax your grip, jaw, and shoulders.

2. Restore comfortable movement

  • Cat-cow: 6 slow repetitions.
  • Hip flexor stretch: 30 seconds per side.
  • Chest opener: 30 seconds per side.
  • Hamstring reach: 30 seconds per side.

3. Target tired areas

Use a massage or mobility tool with light-to-moderate pressure for 60–90 seconds per area. Avoid pressing directly on joints, bones, or irritated tissue.

4. Finish with breathing

Lie down or sit comfortably. Inhale for four seconds and exhale for six seconds for three to five minutes.

Recovery also depends on sleep, hydration, and enough food. If soreness is severe, persistent, or accompanied by swelling or weakness, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
